Family Osteopathy at the Church Street Practice
Here to help all the family
At the Church Street Practice we offer highly
experienced osteopathic care for families – from
ante-natal support to babies, toddlers, children
and teens, through to the grandparent generation. We provide osteopathic servcies for the Bath, Bristol, Trowbridge, Frome, Warminster, and the Wiltshire and North East Somerset area in general.
We’ve put together this guide to the check-ups
and treatment sessions we offer to families - from
a 20 minute ‘peace of mind’ baby check-up, to a
full examination and treatment session for both
mother and baby, and our senior check-up for the
retired or over 65.
Mum: New Patient £55.00
Mum: Existing Patient £38.00
The postural and hormonal changes of
pregnancy can put huge demands on the
muscles, ligaments and joints of the mother’s
body, as the developing baby expands.
Similarly, the growing baby can make space
tight for the diaphragm, stomach and
bladder, leading to common symptoms such
as swollen ankles, urinary frequency and
heartburn.
Our experienced osteopaths are perfectly
placed to offer advice, support and
treatment to minimise aches and pains
that can develop.
Many pregnant mums book to see us
from 14 weeks or so, with a monthly visit
to to catch any problems as
they develop.
Our osteopaths can also advise
on postural and other exercises to
encourage the baby to lie in the ideal
position prior to your delivery.
If you wish to see us regularly you can book
6 appointments for the price of 5: £190
instead of £228.
(Up to 4 week old - 20 minutes) £10.00
How is your newborn adapting to
life outside the womb? Is there
anything you are concerned
about in how s/he looks or
behaves? We will discuss the
pregnancy and birth with you
and examine the baby to assess
how they’re doing.
We are happy to discuss any
concerns you may have, and
answer questions about your
baby’s care and well-being,
drawing on our wide-ranging
wealth of experience of infant
health. We will advise you if we
think you need to see your Health
Visitor or GP.
As well as our osteopathic examination
we are also trained to screen for infant
clinical conditions.
Hopefully all will be well, but if we think
osteopathy may help you we can book in
your baby for a half hour treatment session,
usually at a later date.
(Up to 4 week old - with mum check up) £45.00
Naturally mums are concerned about the
health of their newborn babe but we
think mums are very important people
too. The whole family benefits if both
mum and babe are feeling well.
We will take the baby’s birth case history
and give a full examination and treatment
as needed. We will also give mum an initial
assessment to see how well her pelvis and
spine have coped with the pregnancy & birth.
Mums appreciate this opportunity to talk
through what’s normal after having a baby
and what may need helping along.
Mum & Babe Full

As children start their school career their
development comes into sharp focus as they
are expected to learn lots of new skills.
School also brings its challenges to the
immune system!
At this age kids are growing steadily, their
baby teeth start falling out, their faces
lengthen and aches and pains may occur.
They also start getting into scrapes, as their
urge to explore overcomes their awareness of
danger!
We are often asked about recurrent
infections, posture, teeth alignment, learning
issues and ability to
concentrate in this age
group.
Whatever your
concerns or if your child
hasn’t seen us for a while,
this check-up will review
your child’s current health
and development progress.
We will refer you to your
GP or dentist if we think it
necessary, or we may suggest an
osteopathic treatment plan.
(11 - 16 years - 20 minutes) £10.00
Puberty is the time of greatest change since
the womb – rapid growth, a hormonal
storm and huge intellectual and personal
development. Intensive training in sports or
musical instruments can have an impact on
the growing body.
Increasing workload at school and lots of time
at the computer can put posture under strain,
especially with laptops.
We are particularly interested in
checking posture and the spine
for signs of curvature – scoliosis
– as prompt assessment and
treatment can be important
in limiting the impact of this
condition during the peak
growth period.
We can also help to cope with
orthodontic programmes,
which place strain on the
growing child and can affect
sleep and concentration.
Whatever your concerns or if your child
hasn’t seen us for a while, this quick checkup
is an excellent way to review health and
development at this challenging stage of life.
(Retired or 65+ - 20 minutes) £10.00
As well as individual symptoms
that may be bothering you, we are
interested in your overall health. By
understanding how current symptoms
may be interacting with old strains and
traumas we can find ways of helping
you cope better with life as you get
older.
Can you carry on doing your
favourite pastime? Do you
sometimes feel too tired
or achey to get out of bed?
Have you had a fall or accident
recently?
Maybe you are waiting for hip or knee
replacement and finding it hard to cope with
the pain? Are you perhaps concerned about
maintaining your independence?
As we get older the body needs a little more
investment to keep it in good condition, and
often small changes can make a big impact.
We will discuss your health and suggest ways
to maintain and improve it. Osteopathic care
may alleviate symptoms and help you to live
more comfortably.
At Church Street Practice we also see
many hundreds of adult patients. We are
interested in the structure of the body and
how this affects function – from the way
the muscles and bones are working to how
the internal organs are positioned and their
freedom of movement.
We are interested in the whole person
– looking at the entire body for the source of
local symptoms and considering the possibility
of emotional and social as well as physical
causes to problems.
