Indian Head Massage

Indian Head Massage is a treatment that originated in India over a thousand years ago, and still forms an integral part of daily family life. Primarily used by Indian women as part of their grooming routine, the massage was found to have many physical and psychological benefits.
The technique was introduced into the UK in the early 1970's and adapted to include massage of the upper back, shoulders, neck, scalp and face. It can be performed with or without the use of oils to the scalp, and the recipient remains fully clothed at all times.
The massage is an extremely relaxing experience which reduces stress levels and tension in the upper part of the body, producing an overall feeling of well-being. It is very effective for the treatment of such conditions as headaches and migraine, neck and shoulder pain and sinus congestion, as well as increasing energy levels and uplifting the mood. It also promotes healthy hair growth and improves the general condition of the hair and scalp.
Many people enjoy having a massage purely for the relaxation and the pleasure of taking ‘time out' from a busy life. For those with more specific problems, an initial course of 4-6 treatments at regular intervals is recommended. The massage can also be adapted to suit children and young people, who with the pressures on them from school and examinations etc, can suffer from stress related conditions in a similar way to adults.

Judy is a Member of the Federation of Holistic Therapists and holds full Professional Indemnity Insurance. She previously worked within the National Health Service as a Nursing Sister.
