Stress and mental wellbeing during exam season

Throughout the months of May and June exams are held in the UK, our young people are studying and revising hard for their up and coming exams. This added pressure can lead to mental overload, anxiety and higher levels of stress.

But, did you know we need to experience a certain level of stress to enhance our performance and improve our overall focus. Stress is governed by our nervous system, and when levels of adrenaline are high it activates our nervous system which puts  our bodies and mind into a state of flight and fight.

The key to managing stress is to recognise when we need to be ready and alert and when we need to calm our nervous system to feel  relaxed and in control. When preparing for exams it is best to not become overwhelmed, which is easier said than done!

Try to take short breaks whist revising to enjoy other things, take a look at our regular social media posts on ways to help improve our wellbeing in times of stress. Hint, it’s all about the small things, such a deep breathing, enjoying nature and eating well.

Reflexology has been evidenced to reduce stress and tension and improve mood and mental wellbeing. It’s a gentle and relaxing holistic touch therapy that promotes overall better physical and emotional health.

At Church Street, Tracey Garner provides specialist  clinical reflexology treatments designed for stress management. If you have a young person in your life or are studying for exams yourself, why not book a treatment to experience the benefits. It’s an excellent way to support yourself through this time.

Remember, to pace yourself whilst revising, keep at it and good luck.

You’ve got this!
