Osteopathy for Babies and Mums-to-be
Our experienced osteopaths really enjoy working with mums to be. It’s such an exciting time, knowing a new life is growing and preparing to enter the world. A woman’s body will go through several important shifts during pregnancy and our mums come to the practice for all sorts of pregnancy related symptoms.
Significant postural changes are going to occur as pregnancy progresses, aided by the release of hormones designed to allow ligaments to soften and stretch. This will help mum’s spine accommodate the new shape her back, ribs and pelvis will need to take as her body adapts to the growing “bump”.
Gentle, safe and effective
Headaches, back pain, breathlessness, birth preparation and much more…
Mostly these changes go well, but some mums experience aches and pains as their spinal curves are changing and this altered posture can lead to increased weight and load on joints and muscles. Osteopaths are experienced in assessing and offering treatment to help the spine and pelvis accommodate for changes in pregnancy.
Osteopaths can also focus on preparing the body for the later stages of pregnancy and the labour itself; this can help lead to a better positioning of the baby. Any previous injuries or strains of the back or pelvis within either the bony alignment or quality of the muscle and connective tissues (fascia) may be identified and treated; this means that the woman’s body is in the optimum state for a good labour, birth and recovery.
Call the practice, and we can arrange for a free 15 minute “chat” with one of our osteopaths, either on the phone or in person to discuss any problems or concerns you may have during your pregnancy. Our Ostepathic clinic is close to Trowbridge, Frome, Corsham, Chippenham, Melksham, Westbury, Devizes and Warminster
Newborn and Infants
A new baby in the house is a time of great wonder and joy, with everyone getting used to the new family dynamic. But things may not always be quite as “idyllic” as in this picture, or as parents had hoped for!? The journey of the baby’s delivery into the world is perhaps the most natural thing in the world, but not all go perfectly naturally!
Osteopathic principles recognise that structure and function are intimately related. If body structure is not balanced and healthy, then function can be affected. Gentle cranial osteopathic techniques are suitable for children (of all ages), they are safe and gentle. Our osteopaths will assess your child to see what might help.
